Laurie was born in Dublin and is currently living in Cork, Ireland.
Her work is a deeply personal response to her environment and she expresses this very often through colour. She is especially drawn towards human emotions, and tries to portray this in her work.
Laurie is inspired by the Expressionist movement and Abstract Expressionism. That is, she presents her work from a subjective point of view, distorting it for emotional effect in order to evoke moods or ideas which appeal to the soul.
She is influenced by artists such as Edvard Munch, Salvador Dali, Francis Bacon and abstract expressionists such as Willem de Kooning.
Laurie works mainly in acrylics but often also in oil paint, depending on whichever is more appropriate for what she is trying to express. For her sketches, Laurie works mainly with charcoal on paper.
Laurie has sold many works domestically within Ireland, and internationally, to Patrons in Spain, London and New York.

UPDATE : "FINDING COLOUR" SOLD AT AUCTION
I am incredibly proud to be part of a group exhibition, created by Pluid The National Comfort Blanket. Throughout lockdown, artists were called on to submit an individual artwork of 15cm x 15cm, which was curated and assembled and will now be exhibited. These artworks were requested to be created with the subject theme of "what gave you comfort during lockdown" in mind. My oil painting, "Finding colour" was painted in response to the comfort gained from discovering my enjoyment of painting, and thus opening up a whole new chapter in my life. The exhibition is on in "The Cowshed Gallery", Farmleigh, Dublin. Running from the 27/08/21 to the 05/09/21, daily from 10am to 5pm. Viewing strictly by appointment. A selection of works, including mine, are being currently auctioned off, with all funds raised going to Pieta House. Auction site link in bio of Pluid.project2021 on Instagram.
